Boulder area car camping
I have a friend coming out who wants to camp out. |
What do you want to be near? What kind of ground clearance does said vehicle have? How close must the car to be camped in have to be? |
as far as developed camping is concerned the closest thing is in Nederland. There are a few BLM lands in the area but I am not going to be the one to give that info out. I'm new to the area, I don't think I am supposed to know about them (not really because they are on maps, but people sometimes get bent out of shape for giving out info like that). There is a REALLY cool site just off of 119 near golden gate state park called cold creek ( i think) that has some nice sites. Those are the only cool ones that I know about anywhere near here, but like I said, I'm fairly new to Boulder. |

Nederland is not a good bet this year. West Mag is still closed for forestry work, Kelly Dahl is closed for the same reasons, and MM 37.5 on the Peak to Peak had many problems last summer with transients and redneck locals trying to chase out said transients (this will probably be the case again this summer). If you want to camp near Ned you'll have to walk at least a mile from your car to get to a hassle free zone. |

There used to be a motel at the base of Four Mile Canyon a motel with camping, don't remember the name of it but it would be the closest camping to Boulder. There's Rainbow Lakes off the Peak to Peak between Nederland and Ward but it may not be open yet. Just south of Nederland there was BLM camping to the west off of Magnolia that also may have issues as they are doing Beetle mitigation up there. There's camping in Golden Gate State park and at the Fairgrounds in Longmont. |

Here's my thread link to all the other links on this topic. |

Just like climbing evolved so did dirtbagging.... |
JeffCo Open Space has some camping......off of 93 (between Golden and Boulder) there is White Ranch OS, which has 2 campgrounds: |
Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood. Car camping, electrical hookups and showers. $20/night + a day use fee if you don't have a pass. It is a regional park, so a State Parks Pass doesn't help. |
