The right of way for the railroad extends 50 feet on either side of the tracks, so while walking next to the tracks is likely safer, from the point of view of the railway it does not necessarily provide a solution. Ideally climbers should avoid being near the tracks whenever possible. We're requesting that climbers use alternative approach trails when it makes sense, such as in the case of the Frankenstein Cliff trail. If you do need to use the tracks, we want people to be aware of the situation, and to try not to spend excess time on them.
Description
Just to the left of Waterfall is a small right-facing ice step that leads to another ice flow underneath a birch tree growing out of the rock. Climb the ice to the crack above and top out (crawl) through the bushes. Fun movement, turf shots, and great gear throughout the dry-tooling section make this a lot of fun. There are multiple stances throughout the route that allow for great rests to place gear and shake out. Be wary of the large block/flake before the last ledge as it is a little hollow (seemed to be frozen in place for now). We didn't seen any signs of a previous ascent (rock is in great condition) on this save for an old bail pin a few feet past the birch tree at the bottom.
