Description
Is Ski Tracks too easy for you? Do want to follow lines of cold grey ice and be like Tobin? Well convince your “alpinist” friends from ARG and get on it!
Pitch 1: M7, 35 meters
Starting in a steep corner with ample cracks and moss. You’ll come to a point where you can continue straight up (Scotty’s corner) or trend right on easier but more runout ground. We went right and found it more like m6 but it didn’t look nearly as good as Scotty’s corner.
Pitch 2: M7, 25 meters
Probably the best pitch, pull hard up through a very steep left trending crack in a left facing corner. Pull through the top onto neve and continue up a very fun neve runnel until you reach a snow ledge with the Three Headed Bitch area and Carl’s Chockstone easily visible.
Pitch 3: M6, 20 meters
A deceiving hard and longer pitch than it looks like from the belay. Climb up a corner system on fun moderate ground up towards Carl’s Chockstone. Exit the corner with some steep exciting moves to the belay.
Pitch 4: M8-9, 10 meters
Also known as Carl’s Chockstone this doesn’t look like much from the belay but you’ll probably find it’s kinda hard. Climb up a wide corner and in our case excavate the corner as well. Finding good gear and some awkward winter crack climbing. Getting up under the Chockstone you find some good hooks on choss back in the crack and move left under/around the Chockstone. Hard moves with very poor feet especially when everything is covered in snow. Pull over the Chockstone and there’s an anchor up on the right.
A great topo can be found here on Eddie Phay’s blog cragalaska.com/miniguide/mg…
