Description Suggest change

In a horrific, flat, rockless land of beaches, swamps and retirement homes, the modern climber will find but one true haven of splitter crack; the Coastland mall. There are cracks all throughout the parking garages. Each stairwell is home to its share of face and corner cracks, ranging from perfect hands to small fists. Some routes have topouts, while others must be downclimbed.

While most of these cracks are finished with a gritty paint that will eat away at the skin of your hands, (bring gloves for best experience), there is one face that stands out with smooth, unfinished concrete and a comfortable topout. I call this one the Supercrack of the Swamp, due to the striking resemblance to its desert counterpart. Climbers will find a perfect hands start that gradually widens to cupped hands at the top (definitely fists for the smaller handed climbers). You could probably get away with a hip belay at the top, but there aren't many anchor options otherwise. I'd recommend treating it as a boulder problem.

Have fun!

Location Suggest change

Go to the South entrance of the South parking garage at the Coastland mall. The crack starts on the left side of the ramp to the upper floor parking.
