Description
A fun chimney on the Sentinel that will test your stemming skills and looks easier from the ground than it actually climbs. I found very thoughtful cruxes while moving through the two small roofs/bulges. The route has a different character than the other climbs on the Sentinel, and is named "The General" after the handsome tree standing guard at the beginning of the good rock.
Start climbing behind the fallen tree trunk and angle up and right on chossy loose rock to the large tree at the base of the obvious chute. Climb 100ft of steep quality rock up the chute and build a gear anchor on a ledge roughly 30 feet shy of the summit.
DESCENT: Scramble atop the boulder at climber's left side (north) on the belay ledge and down climb the short easy chimney on the backside to a horizontal traverse over to the saddle between the Sentinel & East Sentinel.
