Description Suggest change

Via Ferrata Piz da Lech is a very enjoyable, moderately difficult route which includes two tall ladders close to the summit to scale a crackless, holdless wall. It is similar in difficulty to Via Ferrata Alpini on Col dei Bos.

The easiest and most enjoyable way to reach the start is to take the Boe Gondola from downtown Corvara then the Vallon ski lift which ends just below the Rifugio Franz Kostner in an incredible basin. From the top of the Vallon lift the final 100-200 meters of the trail to the start of the wire is clearly visible.

While the first 50m of the wire may be considered the crux there are several other sections which bring pause including the step off the upper of the two ladders. Quite the thrill. The total climbing time is about an hour give or take.

Once off the cable follow a trail marked with red dots for 15-20 minutes to the actual top of Piz da Lech and the customary cross(which is visible from downtown Corvara 5000' below). From the top head straight down from the summit on well marked trail 646 for about 30 minutes. You will pass several steeper sections and then a cables section which ends in a short ladder of stemples.

From the bottom of the stemples head downhill for about five minutes to a wooden signpost. Those heading back to the top of the Vallon lift should turn right and do 200 foot scramble down a short scree gully then take an obvious trail back to the lift. This portion of the descent can be previewed on the walk into the start of the climb. The round trip time from start to finish is 3-4 hours.

Those not utilizing the Vallon lift can continue on trail 646 down to the top of the Boe Gondola.
