Description Suggest change

This is the younger sibling of the Via Ferrata Andrea Y Maria Ferrari(AKA Ra Bujela) and is located about five minutes away to the south just on the other side of the famous "Tofana Schuss" feature of Cortina's Women's downhill ski course. It climbs the formation known as the Ra Pegna hence the name.

It was constructed by the Cortina Alpine Guides to be a route which appeals to families of all ages hence it is a great first Via Ferrata and is considered to be "easy."  The approach is from the top of the chair lift and takes about five minutes. It should take about one hour for the ascent. The descent is down the "Tofana Schuss" which is quite steep and might be considered the crux for those who have difficulty with heights.

Those looking for a bit longer day out might consider also doing the Via Ferrata Maria y Andrea Ferrari.

The best way to do this Via Ferrata is to drive up the paved road to the Ristorante Pietafona which begins about 1.5 miles from Cortina up the road to Passo Falzarego(SR48). The initial sign is for Gildardon.

At the end of the pavement you reach the Ristorante Pietafona and the Duca d'Aosta - Pomedes chair lift which in 2023 was open from 8:30am-5pm(please check). Take the lift to the top at the Rifugio Duca d'Aosta. From the top of the lift there are two rock towers above. Ra Bujela is on the right. Ra Pegna is on the left.

To reach the start hike up the slopes of the "Tofana Schuss" heading for the lowest point of the tower and a trail. The cable begins about 200 feet up the trail so gear up sooner than later. Once on top follow cables down and south(left) then west to a large steel ladder which you take to the ground. Watch for loose lock on the descent. At the bottom head east for a few feet and descend the "Tofana Schuss" on a well defined, but steep and loose, trail.
