Description Suggest change

This is the leftmost of the major gullies on the Boott Spur Ridge. While not nearly as popular as Hillman's, Dodge's or Duchess, it still makes for a very cool outing. Due to it's aspect, it doesn't receive nearly as much wind loading as other gullies in Tuckerman Ravine, meaning the ice bulges don't get buried. This presents a challenge for skiers looking to put some turns on it, but could also make for a fun climbing objective, short pitching the ice bulges at WI1-2 and simuling the snow. Good place to integrate alpine style techniques. It's also a good low commitment solo, because you could shwack around the ice at any point.

Start as for Hillman's Highway but trend left through a short section of spruce and gain access to the gully. You'll encounter the largest of the ice bulges at the beginning, followed by long sections of Moderate Snow, intermixed with slabs of ice. Top out at a col in the ridge, put skis on and descend, or for you hardos, walk off via Hillman's, or Glen Boulder Trail.

Location Suggest change

The long gully to the left of the rocky buttress that forms Cathedral Gully.

Protection Suggest change

Small rack of screws, light rope, maybe a picket?
