Knobulator

5.10b PG13, Trad, 80 ft (24 m),  Avg: 3.5 from 2 votes
FA: Rich Folsom 1986
Washington > Northwest Region > Darrington & Mt… > Darrington > Three O'clock Rock

Description

One of the best short climbs of the crag, Knobulator is an excellent knob climb on the far south aspect (Whitelaw's Rattle and Slime calls this 'Garden Weasel' based on a campfire conversation decades ago, but comment below appears more credible). Though bolt protected, it starts with a 15' runout on 5.8 knobs to reach the big weasel-shaped blob, which you pull onto to clip the first bolt. From there, the route is well protected as the climbing gets gradually harder.

Route was bolted on lead in 1986, replaced in 2022 with 3/8” stainless hardware.

Location

From the high spot below the Rash, bushwhack another 200' or so along the base, dropping under the timber for less brushy travel. The route starts in a shady alcove left of a mungy corner, with a 6-foot block at the base (photo). The abundant knobs and shiny bolts are also distinctive.

Protection

7 bolts. A 60 m rope gets you up and down
