Chalk is unsightly to non-climbers. Please avoid chalking up boulder problems that are visible from the Chicago Lakes Trail, & in general, keep chalk use to a minimum. Brush all tick marks off after every session. Use containers that prevent chalk spills & if you do spill, clean it up.
Stashing crash pads is forbidden by the USFS. Pads will be confiscated.
Noise: this is a Wilderness area that is enjoyed by many, mostly non-climbers. The last thing passing hikers want to hear are f-bombs, iPod speakers, grunting, etc. In fact, most other CLIMBERS don't want to hear any of these things either. The easiest way for us to lose access is to elicit complaints from other user groups.
Dogs must be leashed at all times, they scare wildlife. Obviously, clean up after your dog.
Remember we are guests in this area. Be respectful of other users & the USFS Rangers that manage this area.
Description
One of the best of the grade at Evans, and a welcome respite from the area’s famed crimps and board-style climbs, Gorillas in the Mist is the much-needed squeeze-bloc for the area. Originally suggested to be V8 by the first ascensionist, consensus has now settled at V10.
Start matched in the left-facing undercling, paste your feet, and slap up the incredible, sloper rail. Use small crimps in a seam to make a difficult move to the sloping lip. Once established on the lip, rock over, and desperately grope for a good crimp roughly 2 feet back.
Location
From Seurat, walk around the backside of the boulder, and encounter a social trail leading up-valley into the trees. Gorillas in the Mist is the first climb you encounter after about 10 to 15 minutes on this trail. It sits in a grove of pines at the very base of the Area B talus field. The climb is found on the overhanging west face of the boulder.
