ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Check this site for details: smithrock.com/seasonal-clos…
Description
Perched atop a massive detached chunk of the wall, Slab of Doom offers interesting moves compared to most Smith nob-pulling slabs and a good challenge for the grade. Unfortunately, the positives of the route are diminished by lots of loose rock and ample amounts of animal poop (some on really nice holds). With enough traffic the loose rock might disappear, but I believe the wall has an infinite amount of poop that will forever stain.
Location
If going around Brogan Spire/Mudpile from above: follow the wall downhill until reaching Maiden Oregon Wall.
If going around Brogan Spire/Mudpile from below: head uphill past the Wallaby and Joey, follow the trail across the hillside. The trail leads directly to Maiden Oregon Wall.
Slab of Doom is the obvious slab on the left of the wall.
