ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description
Powerful, cryptic, and pumpy! This route is uniquely overhung (and fun) for Smith.
Begin with a strange boulder followed by a somewhat unnecessary rest. After catching your breath, a vertical face leads to some good holds on a large flake. Pull the roof above you with some difficulty then crank through the overhanging crimps until you reach an absolutely perplexing crux on more vertical terrain. Get what you can back at the jug beneath the final overhang and pray that you have enough juice to slap your way through the slopey holds that guard the anchor.
A Note on Route Finding:
At the fourth bolt most climbers trend right and use the slopey rail near La Shootist before reaching out and clipping the 5th bolt from a large sidepull. This section can be climbed directly but at a greater difficulty. After clipping the fifth bolt the original line veers left and tackles the roof directly near the bolt line.
