Description Suggest change

A good 3rd class route to Montana highpoint. A long approach via
Lady of the Lake trail and Skytop Creek. Most people will take 2-3 days. When I climbed this route there was no snow

but there was solid ice inside the couloir section, which can be mostly avoided.  I also had trouble finding the start, which usually has snow, but had none when I was there. From Sky Top Lake there is a use trail to the base of the climb, 11,400’.  At the time there was one rock cairn there. Follow the sandy scree gully up to the couloir start at about 12,000’. Turn right here and climb the couloir to the top, about 12,600’.

Turn left and finish up the ridge to the summit. See gps track.

Location Suggest change

I have no gps coordinates or photo of the start. My gps track shows a fairly striaght line, right of Skytop Lake and the upper tarn. I found a use trail there.

Protection Suggest change

Depends on conditions, amount of snow and ice. I did this as a scramble.
