Warning Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures ***** RAIN AND WET ROCK ***** The sandstone in Zion is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN ZION during or after rain. A good rule of thumb is that if the ground near your climb is at all damp (and not powdery dry sand), then do not climb. There are many alternatives (limestone, granite, basalt, and plastic) nearby. Description Suggest change

The checkerboard face has many water grooves.  Particle Man is the widest, steepest, and deepest water groove.   Established on-sight free solo.

P1:  100'   Begin from the toe of the apron and climb up the steepening slab to the water groove.  The last friction move to gain the crack is the crux and is unprotected.  Ascend the groove to a wide parking lot ledge (no gear available, ass-friction belay).  5.6

P2:  200' traverse   From the large ledge, traverse right and gradually upward, taking the path of least resistance, to wrap around the formation onto easier terrain (no protection).  Easier than 5.6

Descend the south face until you see a major wall to your right.  Follow the wall down to the valley floor.

Location Suggest change

Protection Suggest change
