Description Suggest change

Ice Nine is an impressive looking pillar just south of Rampart Creek Hostel.  The first pitch climbs up a free standing pillar for 45m.  The 2nd pitch is the crux and can be an actual pillar or just a maze of icicles.  It is a full 50m to the very top.  Some parties elect to rappel from the ice just before the lip but there are a few smaller trees that have rappel cord up and right from the top out (as of Mar 2020).  It has been said that the first pitch has a nasty habit of falling down without warning in March after a few days of warm sunny weather.  Go early when it is still freezing and plan to be off by the time it warms up.

Location Suggest change

The climb sits in the obvious drainage 1km south of Rampart Creek Hostel.  Park along the road and walk up the avalanche gully to the base (about 45min)  The route is the left of a pair of climbs, with the right one being Happy Days.

Protection Suggest change

Ice screws. Bolted anchors at the top of pitch 1 on the left.
