Description
Probably the best 7c+ at Flatanger, granted there aren't very many so take that for what you may. Påltergeist is a long route on great rock but, despite its length, is more bouldery than endurance. Start by climbing 2 bolts of very easy climbing through the black swoosh to a very small roof. Slightly heady but safe moves yield the third clip and then a few crimpy power moves (crimps at Flatanger, who knew?) lead to a big flat rail and another bolt. The next few bolts follow an obvious vertical rail that faces left that's full of jugs and gastons and even a kneebar or 2. Ignore the bolt out right (Dumpster Diver, 8a+) and rest up as the crux starts above. Your goal in this section is to get established on the good holds just below the black wave-like roof. If you're tall this section isn't too bad as there's 1 foot out left....if you're short, well, jump! Once in the roof, clip another bolt and chill, the second half of the crux is next which involves some committing a little above the bolt. Once through this, the final 10m is fairly benign if you relax and lean way left to clip the last bolt. Victory romp to the anchors.
