Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures
Details
Please be aware of the annual raptor seasonal closures!
Raptor Closures Effective February 1-July 31
Visit: jeffco.us/open-space/news/2…
Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves

Description
Tread lightly past one bolt to another ledge, clip the second bolt, and launch into some of Clear Creek's most fun, steep climbing around. There is a very distinct crux on this one, with sustained 11+(ish) moves taking you to the anchor.
Location
This route is on the extremely overhung piece of rock to the right of the trail before you get to Creekside 'proper' and the 'Playin' Hooky; area. Once you spot the climb (it's pretty obvious), locate the 'faint climber's trail' that winds up and to the right into a gully. Continue up the gully, and exit onto the ledge on the left. Go to the edge of the ledge, and you will see a fixed line set up that skirts along the cliff. Follow this line until you end up at the belay ledge. There is a belay anchor here, some long slings can be useful.
Rappelling from this anchor is the fastest and easiest way down. A 70m rope more than reaches, I can't speak to whether or not a 60m will get you down.
