V4, Boulder, 12 ft (4 m),  Avg: 2.8 from 8 votes
FA: unknown
Massachusetts > Eastern, MA > Middlesex Fells > Wright's Park > Slanted Boulder

Description

Stand start with your left hand on a sloper and your right hand on the arete/rail. Move up into the rail/arete. The meat hook jug is your first target. Next comes the topout.

There is a sit start that would go at a couple grades higher, maybe V6 or V7. (Are you reading this, Pete?)

Location

This is to the left of Meat Hook.

Protection

A pad.

[Hide Comment] Great climb, cooler moves and spicier than Hyperion. Felt a bit harder too. A lower start would be sweet and be at least V6. Jun 26, 2016

[Hide Comment] Is the description for the start correct? I was looking for this problem yesterday, and most of the ticks seem to say it's LH on the arete and RH on a small sloper/crimp/pocket, which made a lot more sense.

I can try to take a better picture and X the start holds the next time I'm over there.

Pretty cool route with a pretty bad landing. I have two pads and was still a little sketched as a solo climber. Apr 26, 2023

[Hide Comment] Either start is legit. Walk up, and climb it. There are no formal starting holds when climbing outside. May 1, 2023

[Hide Comment] Multiple of us were completely stumped how to start this. Maybe we are looking too low? I'm not fussed about doing it "right", but starting hold beta can be super helpful to figuring out how to follow something that's actually fun, especially for newbs like me. Adam's comment of "cooler moves and spicier than Hyperion" seems well worth doing but doesn't seem to fit the one move wonder bump into V2 "meat hook" that most of the ticks are describing - so starting holds would definitely be helpful for me. Either way thanks for discovering and sharing, I'll be back to try again for sure! Apr 29, 2024
