Access Issue: Formal talks to secure formal permission to climb on City structures are underway with City of Pittsburgh officials, through the ClimbPittsburgh initiative of the SWPACC. However, no formal permission has been granted to date.

Access Issue: Temporary Closure due to Bridge Construction (October '24 - Early 2027)
Details
SWPACC has received word from the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) that the Schenley Pillar is within the construction zone of the Charles Anderson Bridge rehabilitation project. This is the bridge that crosses over Panther Hollow, connecting Oakland with Squirrel Hill and Greenfield. Because of safety concerns with the construction overhead, the City is turning away climbers from this area.
We are told that this area will very much be an active construction zone through late 2026 and into 2027. While the bridge is expected to be reopened by the end of 2026, there will be ongoing work beneath it for several months afterward.
We ask that climbers please respect this closure. The City has been very supportive of our work through Climb Pittsburgh and we are grateful for their partnership. For more information on the bridge construction, please visit this page. If you have any questions, please contact us!
