Description

Like a wild bore, you must bust up the center of the west-facing slab on the East Colfax formation. Enjoy moderate climbing until you hit a closely bolted headwall section. Get a good rest, and like a wild bore, grunt your way up and over the headwall onto a nice ledge!! From here, find your way up the bolt line to the anchors of this fresh new line!!!

Location

This line is located on the center of the west side of the East Colfax wall. Super fun!! It climbs so much better than it may appear, so do get on the Wild Bore Ride!!!

Protection

Bolts. 11 bolts 2 bolt anchor.

[Hide Comment] This was a very personal new team FA with me and my father, Mark Childers!! He got me into rock climbing almost 22 years ago and at his peak was a mean 5.12 rock climber with a gentleman's approach to the rock. My father, mentor, and fellow rock enthusiast.... I'm so glad you made it all the way from Texas to partake in the great journey that will always be know as "The Wild Bore!!"

We had not climbed together in many years due to life, but this reunion was to be a special one as we bolted and dispatched this new moderate on the East Colfax formation.

So, a special thanks goes out to his dedication and love. You've always been there for me!! I'll have another line picked out for your next visit out!! I do hope to see more of you back out here in the old CO. in the future!! thxs, Dude Man!!!!!!!!! Oct 23, 2011

[Hide Comment] Excellent route, Luke! Definitely worthy and much better than it looks from the ground. The stone has quintessential Clear Creek friction. Good for beginner leaders with all the bolts. Oct 25, 2011

[Hide Comment] Nice! I looked at this line when I was visiting Max, Jay, and Kevin last winter and really wanted to bolt it. Can't wait to do it on my next trip out!
Cheers to new routing and great experiences! Nov 7, 2011

[Hide Comment] A fun cruiser route.

Be aware when pulling through the short broken section of rock. There's a big one in there that looks fairly solid until you step on it. And, if you sent that down on your belayer, it would be bad. Jun 29, 2012

[Hide Comment] Nice route and definitely worth doing. Still some loose rock in that band and a very hollow sounding flake higher up, so be careful. Thanks for putting these up, Luke (and Mark)! Sep 6, 2012

[Hide Comment] Another rare long 5.7. Even though is is only about 10 feet right of Steve's Wild Turkey Day the style of climbing is actually very different. Make sure you climb both of them when you visit this crag. May 20, 2014

[Hide Comment] The crux is at bolt 9... small crimper over the ledge to the left of the bolt is a good option. Gotta really use your legs to get high up the ledge. Sep 5, 2015

[Hide Comment] Second time out on this route and lots of variations for fun! 1) Lead on sport. 2) Mixed route - lots of great pro with the safety of bolts for new leaders. 3) Can choose less obvious holds to up the grade.
A classic! Jul 9, 2017

[Hide Comment] Be careful, the hanger on bolt 9 is missing, so pulling that crux move over the lip is kind of sketchy. There are jugs out to the right before the lip you can use to gain the ledge and prevent a scary situation. Sep 13, 2021

[Hide Comment] Dale Haas and I replaced the hanger on the 9th bolt. The American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA - safeclimbing.org) provided the hardware for this work. They appreciate your support. Sep 23, 2021

[Hide Comment] This climb is a blast! Really fun, incredibly bolted, very safe for the beginner leader. Fun crux and a wonderful slab. Can’t wait to do it again! Apr 12, 2023

[Hide Comment] Based on the previous comment, this and adjacent routes were checked for a possible missing bolt. All bolts appear to be in place and in good condition. Jun 12, 2024
