Description
Phoenix Falls is a two-tiered, southwest-facing waterfall on the slopes of the Continental Divide. Because it is exposed to the sun for most of the day, the ice conditions can be very iffy.
The approach is long, and this 1 pitch waterfall will take the better part of a day.
Location
From downtown Creede, follow Main St north into the canyon. Bear right at the fork to East Willow Creek past some houses where the road becomes 4WD. The road will probably not be plowed, and so you'll find yourself parking not far from town and hiking in. The path follows the 4WD road for ~1 mile until it comes to a parking area. From the parking area, an even fainter 4WD road/trail continues on, paralleling Willow Creek. Follow this for another 1-2 miles until the trail crosses the creek. At this point, you will see Phoenix Falls 1/4 mile ahead on the northeast slope of the Continental Divide.
