Andúril

5.11a, Sport, TR, 25 ft (8 m),  Avg: 2.7 from 53 votes
FA: unknown
California > San Diego County > S San Diego County > Mission Gorge > Middle Earth

Description

Technical, blocky lieback moves a few feet up take you to slightly better hands above. Crux is probably from 3-8 ft up.

Staying left near top keeps you on route and takes you to last bolt; moving right allows you to bail onto Dwarrowdelf to finish (finger sized pro if needed).

Surprised this hasn't been added in; it's obviously frequently TRed, sometimes led.

Location

On the right side of the Middle Earth Lower Canyon, between Dwarrowdelf and Khazaddum.

Protection

3 Bolts. Well protected. Bolts at top slightly to right; rap rings over to left. The right bolts seemed better for the TR, but I could be misremembering.

WORST FOOTHOLD EVER! This moth must have been about 2" long, and I very nearly squashed it going for the stem move. (Maybe you've seen the "worst foothold ever" picture of a giant millipede in the much maligned 2008 Orenszak Gunks climbing guide?)
