What's the best kind of trousers for bouldering?

I’m looking to get a decent pair of climbing trousers and figured I’d ask here before spending any money. I’ve seen people bouldering in everything from full-on technical climbing pants to jeans, joggers, and even shorts, so I’m curious — is there actually a “best” type of trouser for bouldering?

I'm mainly climbing indoors and usually wear joggers, but they can get pretty warm. I'm looking for something comfortable, durable, and non-restrictive.

What do you all swear by? Are the pricier climbing-specific trousers worth it, or are there solid budget options that perform just as well?

Appreciate any recs or thoughts!

I am a sweaty guy, and the best pants for staying cool that I’ve found are the Patagonia Terrebonne joggers. They’re very light, stretchy, and breathable. Not a good option for groveling, but great for everything else!

Whatever is comfy for you will be great, though. They don’t need to be climbing-specific

The answer is, obviously, no pants.

I second the terrebonne joggers from Patagonia. Probably the best option for indoor climbing when it’s warm out but you don’t want to throw shorts on, or if you just want something more breathable and flexible. They aren’t good for outdoors though, they don’t hold up to the abrasion of rocks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
