I'm deciding between the 2, as this will be my first ledge I was wondering if anyone has an opinion in these 2?

Thanks

This is what my friend says

metolius double with the bombsheltwr fly is hands down the best ledge. its heavier sure, but lasts longer and is the easiest to set up. the d4 was easy to set uo when new, but unfortunately the frame on mine was deformed enough to make it really difficult to disassemble. I've been pretty hard on my ledges though. but the metolius ledge just handles it.

the bd one is heavy but also good. im on my second bd ledge.

th bd and metolius oedge are the best when you are actually using them as a porteledge. ie sleeping, camping, making food, chilling. when you use the fly that has the floor they are incredible. solid, earm, dont get wet in rainstorms.

the d4 is a good ledge when you are not using it as a porteledge ie hauling, space savings, easy diploy fly. but in real rain storms youre getting wet. theyre great for shorter walls or ones with shorter approaches where lightweight is crucial.

The D4 is very difficult to set up while hanging. Skot has one and we flag it from bottom to top.
I don't care for its fly though. Essentially is uses a zipper as a structural element. The zipper holds the front of the fly together and if it were to fail, there would be no way to secure it closed and you'd be fully open to the elements.
A bombproof fly can be a life saving tool on a wall. I'd rather not have to trust a zipper with my life.

Love my bomb shelter, easy to setup solo, even easier with a partner. A little on the heavy side but bomber. The D4 looks nice and lighter for sure

Is it that much heavier?

9.97kg vs 10.12

I have had both the black diamond and the metolius. The bd I had was the cliff cabana. It was super heavy and hard to set up. I have used the metolius for years and it is bombproof. Much easier to set up than the bd but also quite a bit lighter.

I have the D4 2P, but ...

My ledge practically builds itself as I take it out of the bag. This feature alone makes me love my ledge and pity those I see wrestle their ledge and strangle the spreader bar while just wanting a bit of sleep. After a bit of practice it takes me 2 minutes to assemble and a couple more to put it away. Also the fly barry sent me has held up to a couple storm days on el cap, would recommend.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
