So I am looking for the more breathable, wind resistant lined light insulated jacket for high output alpine climbing. (I have fleece jackets which I know are more breathable, so looking at lined options that would be more wind resistant, and breathable)
I was told by the Arcteryx rep that the linings on the Proton Hoody are more breathable than the Atom Hoody, with different lining materials.
* Checking to see if any of you folks have any experience comparing the 2 jackets, and any advice in maximizing breathability while staying warm in high output alpine climbing?
I don't have experience with side by side comparison... but I figured I would let you know that the Proton LT (previous model of the Proton hoody I believe) is my go to jacket due to its breathability and warmth/wind resistance while climbing. The cuffs are one of my favorite features because when I pull them up my forearm they tend to stay put. Hood is a little small for a helmet but it works...
Best jacket I have owned for alpine climbing. I have beat the hell out of mine and it has held up decently.
I've never tried the Atom, but I've had my Proton LT for around 6 years and it's my favorite jacket. Like Chase said, it's really breathable while still being warm/wind resistant and durable. I've used this jacket as a part of my layering system from 10F to 60F while climbing, hiking and camping. Definitely would recommend the Proton, it balances warmth and breathability perfectly.
