Reputable Cam Resling Service?
|
Hi all, I'm wanting to resling my cams, an assortment of C4s/WC friends/aliens. Any recommendations for who would do them all? Thanks Zac |

Mountain Tools is great and will resling anything |

Runoutcustoms did some of my non-metolius cams quickly. Jon |

I can do it with a 24-kn rated Seamless covered Dyneema loop. Ten color options. www.zartmancruising.com |

I’ve been using Mountain Tools for almost 40 years. Easy online form. Great communication. |

Thats not a bad idea for your services Ben Z if costs are reasonable. |

Mtntools.com is the only place I go to these days for just about anything climbing. |

Same as above re. Mountain Tools. Honest work, quality you can trust. Had the whole rack re-done last year, Larry Arthur and Jane did great job with it. Highly recommended. |

Has anyone ever had Yates Adjustable Daises reslung at any of the aforementioned? |

Mr Rogers wrote: Responding to @kyle Thompson as well. Turnaround time (from arrival to shipping out) would be as little as three days, up to six business days (unless there was more than 20 units). I would sling with the same material I use for my 24-kn rated Seamless runners: a core winding of SK99 Dyneema inside a Dyneema cover. It ends up being about 5mm diameter. Using uncovered Dyneema would be far cheaper, but less desirable, since there'd be no UV protection, and sometimes on a tight bend radius the outer strands of braid can separate and let the bury tails start to "herniate" out. There are no bend-radius issues with the covered technology, since the construction method is different (I have some YouTube videos of making these on my channel, Zartman Rigging). I'm afraid I couldn't put an extra wrap for extending or to beef up the bails of BD ultralights: the construction would become too faffy. I could only do plain loops, but could certainly do custom lengths. Best way to spread the load would be to have the sling separate, and girth-hitch it to the bail. That adds bulk, though. Here's a pic of some old Mexicams (Tios) I re-slung as an experiment: Cost: $30 each, to start with. I know it ain't cheap, but high-grade, traceable materials and hand-labor have to have some value. |

Ben Zartman wrote: This is what I meant. Exact concept MFGs who make extendable slings on cams. Just add a wrap to the loop and do as you would for an endless loop....(this cordage is too small, but should get the idea across) |

Mr Rogers wrote: It could be done: it's just that when building a covered loop, adding a wrap makes it really difficult to make. A lot more faffing, which would drive up the time, and more material that would drive up the price. I'd be inclined, with cams like that, to rack them sling-less on a biner, then add a sling of the length I needed: a Seamless quickdraw in one of its two positions, or a shoulder-length runner in basket or clove hitched would give me four length options right there. |

Just got my gear back from mountain tools. Super happy with the work. It worked well since they do everything and I have a franken rack with a bit of everything. |

Runout Customs - great work and FAST. I sent my Metolius to Metolius, BD to BD and my Aliens to Runout. All the same day. Runout got them back a week prior to Metolius, BD will be a few more weeks which I understand and also appreciate that they will sew in a date. But still, these are nicely done and fast. They didn't have any orange nylon so just made the call and used black on the .75 Alien. I appreciate them just making the call and getting it done. |

METOLIUS Only. This is just to emphasize all the previous praise for Metolius' resling service. I just wanted to share a picture of the cams I just got back from Metolius. These are mostly nearing 30 years old and I wish I had a "before" picture. They were grimy, dull, and tied off with cord as a dirt bag sling replacement. I use these a lot and while I kept them cleaned and lubed they kinda showed their age. For $5 each, pretty much half what all other resling services charge, Metolius made me look like a newb again with bright shiny cams, all with brand new feeling action, even somehow getting the grime off the color coded sleeves! The slings came with date tags as shown in the second picture. I'm beyond impressed!

P B wrote: I saw your photos. The Resling cams look to be 1/2-1 inch shorter than the stock slings. Can you confirm? I’d prefer for them not to be any shorter than they already are. Is actually want them to be extendable like the dragons |
