If you aren't already climbing at TRSP it's time you started: Warm sun, big views, amazing stone and a new guidebook. February and March are the best months. Get you some

Hey Patrick, since it’s a park rule “no camping outside if permitted areas” I would advise against trying to stay for free inside the park. Campsites are $20-35, and of course you can go outside the park to dirtbag it. Best to respect park rules to preserve access :)

Thanks for the info!

One of my favorite places to climb in the SE. It's a wonderfully featured angle of rock conducive to fun climbs in the 10-12 range. There are a bunch of moderates in different locations also. So good!

Can anyone offer some insight on the best approach to Step by Step.  It seems like you split at some point from the main pumpkintown trail to get to table town is there a landmark for this split?  and then I'm assuming once you hit the table town area you just follow path of least resistance following the rock face?  Thanks for any beta!

You can split up and right following a ridge at the long, shortish boulder next to the trail. Kind of shaped like a school bus? That ridge will put you on the right side of Table Town and then just push over from there

rather than following the p'town trail, take the new mainwall trail. you will see a massive boulder on the uphill side just before a switch back and a scoured out creek bed. this is maybe a quarter to a half mile after the new trail leaves the p'town trail. it ain't no picnic but head up hill toward the right end of main wall. a quirk of helene is that the stool protected trees higher on the mountain on the east side than the west side. you're still going to encounter massive dead fall, but a narrower band. the first crux pitch is burly 10d. the second starts out burly, then becomes sustained face, 11a. allow plenty of time, or simul the 2nd and 3rd. the rap wanders a bit, but it's ok. 70's are prefered

There is a CCC run access celebration at Pumpkintown this weekend. If you haven't been there, come check it out: https://carolinaclimbers.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=196. I will have guidebooks with me if you donate to the CCC.
