someone had an epic last week on froglands. Batteries and toilet paper around the base. The beefiest bail biner at one of the first bolts, further up a 0.5, further up two cut ropes and broken trauma sheers, further up a 0.4. What’s the story lol?

How many of us had crazy epics when we started? These folks are going to have an entertaining story to tell around the campfire (and laugh about) once a bit of time passes. Always better to sacrifice the gear and live to tell about it than be stingy and take excessive risks.

Agreed.  They got themselves out, anyway.  Kudos to them for that.  Sounds like a big-time learning experience.  Bummer about chopping both ropes.  That's gotta hurt.

One part I don't understand: the party that passed them got their rope stuck on the way up?  What?  I don't understand how that happens.  Plus, if you're going to pass someone, you should be confident and capable enough not to clog up the pitch for 2.5 hours.  Major party foul.

It was probably for the best in the end.  Starting that late, in January, with a party of 3, on a solid 6-pitch route, with difficult retreat options, with a substantial walkoff down a steep gully???  Yeesh!  You'd better be dialed or you're just asking for an epic.

There is a bolt on the first pitch of frogland that feels like it shouldn’t be there because it’s next to a crack- but if you put a piece in there, your rope invariably gets caught in the crack, making you downclimb back to the bolt.

The amount of epics in RR this season is concerning. Seems like the helicopter is out there every few days.

The real crime is calling it "frog lands."

The preferred name is Amphibious Ancestral Lands
