Curious if anyone uses these bad boys

https://dmmwales.com/products/mega-vault

I love my vaults but as a noobie leader I find myself carrying more screws than most so I thought a couple of these in the fronts and a couple vaults in the back would be perfect!

Pretty sure these are huge and you won't actually want them on your harness. Find a pic comparison online. I think they're made for arborist\professional tools. I've been down this path before.

I was just looking at these this week, and it definitely looks too big for ice. I agree with Jake on the arborist angle, one of the photos showed a guy hanging a 20” bar chainsaw from one so they’re BIG

Ok thankx

The petzl ones are definitely bigger but the metal gate tends to pop out of the hole for me, I had to duct tape it.  Just feels flimsy.  I like the vaults

Should anyone want a comparison the mega-vault is 147 mm, my caritool around 135 mm

How are the Grivel ones? Does anybody use those? Im thinking of getting them and just doing two could I safely carry six screws on each?

The grivel carry biners are big enough for 6 screws. I don't use them because they pivot around the spine, unless you use the plastic keeper. But the plastic keeper takes so much effort to put in place and remove that I stopped using them. Maybe with some string like the new caritool would make it function easier.

I really like the Grivel Carryabiners. They sit lower on the harness (as they’re off the gear loop) so I get less hang-up of the screw ends on my thighs, and they can easily carry 6-8 screws each. So that’s a full rack on two items. You can then also use some regular small clippers for stubbies or whatever to keep them separate from the main screw set.

They’re also a fully-rated carabiner on their own, which appeals to me from a year redundancy perspective.

I’ve used the Grivels a bunch. Everything Ben mentions is right. The metal gives me more piece of mind than plastic. However, on the two that I have the gate tension is pretty low. I suspect that I may have even lost a screw off them once thrashing around in a chimney. I don’t use them much anymore.

Does anyone else find the grivels to be really uncomfortable on the hips? I tried them for a season and like the function but they dug into my hips when moving around. I’ve since switched to petzls but as mentioned keep snapping the gates off. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

Yeah the stupid plastic keeper would dig in. Hence trying to use it without it and fighting the plastic keeper all the time. I think it's a great idea but not quite prime time yet. I'll take the dmm vaults any day and so far I haven't snapped the gates on one new petzl caritool. The new ones seem way more solid than older style petzl\bd clippers.

I seem to snap the gate or the body off at least one of the caritools each year.

I switched back to grivel carrybiners and messed with the plastic holder so that it’s on the outside of the harness. They seem to dig in less than in the past but I got injured and haven’t been able to climb and really suss it out now.

I still want to try vaults and see if I prefer them over everything.

I’ve tried the industrial caritools before but they have the giant yellow gate protector on them and are too big to be practical when mixed climbing.

The vaults do everything you want them to do in terms of function and provide that feeling of security. They just cost an arm and a leg. Highly recommend them though.
