Why was a rope left on an ice climb.  Really, it couldn't have been a 'project)!

Assuming it’s where I think it is, it wasn’t on a climb itself, but on the trail to hike around to the top, and it was caught in the hand lines for that trail.

Steve Williams - The "rope" was a fixed hand line used to access the top of the ice climbs to set up top ropes. It truly was just bad luck that the elk snagged the line with his antlers. Fortunately people saw it and got help.

Ropes left on climbs bad, ropes left hanging in the brush on steep terrain for hand lines good.

The other part of the story is that climbers rescued the elk, problem solved.
