In 1985 Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter visited Nepal and stayed at Khumbu Lodge in Namche Bazar . Hosts ,Namdu Sherpani and Pasang Kami greatly enjoyed their visit and  keep in touch with them . They climbed 18,500 ft Kala Patthar . I wonder if that is the record for a President ?

No idea if that’s the record, but always heard George W got pretty high back in the day.  Maybe someone has more info.

I always liked and appreciated President Carter’s message of faith. And he’s one of the only recent presidents to come from an agricultural background. Regardless of politics, he was a good man in my measure.  Thanks for sharing this about his mountain climbing.

While not an presidential altitude record, Teddy (Roosevelt) was said to have climbed the Matterhorn in 1881. 20 years before becoming president. He also set aside hundreds of millions of acres as public lands during his term.

George W allegedly stopped showing up for Texas Air National Guard meetings because they wanted him to give a urine sample. He also got a DUI conviction at one point.

I agree, President Carter was a better president than he got credit for. I still remember his speech about the energy crisis being "the moral equivalent of war". The world would be a better place if more people had listened to him.
