How to build a layering system?

Hey guys it's me again, I'm trying to start mountaineering and since I don't have any access to the mountains the only thing I can really practice is working on a layering system. Thankfully my mom has a bunch of her old gear that fits me perfectly. I know the basics about layering but I'm still struggling to put it all together. What I have: synthetic underwear style long sleeve great base layer, fleece pull over hoodie no hood, nice puffy coat, nice rain coat, fleece pants, soft shell pants, hard shell pants. How would you configure this? Is there any gear you recommend I get? What do you bring for clothes on a typical mountaineering trip?

Have you read MOUNTAINEERING: FREEDOM OF THE HILLS yet? Great general resource, but make sure to grab the newest edition.

First you put on your thong, then long underwear and socks. Capice?

Then, a zip-neck shirt, red if you have any class.

Some pants, and belt or if you're like me, suspenders.

Pile jacket, anything but Patagonia (just to fuck with them).

Shell pants, shell jacket with a good hood that will fit over a helmet.

Don't forget a knit cap! And gloves. And Shell gloves!!!

Let me know if you need washing instructions!!!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
