Tufa is back

I know there was a lot of love for Tufa when they were still making stuff. Got an email today announcing the launch of the new Mochilla pack. Looks pretty slick. Two week crowdfunding effort to get things going. https://tufaclimbing.com/ |

Tufa makes my all time favorite climbing day pack and chalk bag. Excellent designs and quality craftsmanship |

Chris beat me to it, but I wanted to give a shoutout to Josh Kornish over at TUFA and talk a little bit about this pack. Immediate disclaimer: Josh is a dear friend of mine and I had a hand in giving him design input on this pack. Many of us are familiar with the first iteration of TUFA and the products Josh brought to life. A quick search for Mochilla on this site will return many satisfied users singing praises for the original Mochilla 20L pack. I still regularly use mine. Life happens to all of us and Josh is no exception. Several years ago Josh stepped away from TUFA to pursue other venues in life, one of those being working alongside Hale Walcoff at Challenge Outdoor. Together they developed eco-friendly and high performance laminate fabrics for use in the outdoor industry. Fast forward to a little less than a year ago. Josh called me up one day and said TUFA was coming back and his first project was going to be a scaled up, alpine focused version of the Mochilla 20L. I pulled all my alpine packs out and we facetimed for an hour, discussing what makes a good pack and where there is room for improvement in that arena. Josh's passion for design and quality was evident as always and I came away stoked for what he would cook up. After several iterations here TUFA is now with the Mochilla 33, the lightest, most comfortable alpine pack I have ever used. Each one hand made in a garage by Josh, a human being of the highest quality.

Great news. I still regularly use my 20L for multi pitch. Any idea if that and chalk bags will be coming back into production? |
|
Tufa is terrific. Years ago, Josh made me a custom designed chalk bag that I still think is the greatest chalk bag ever created. (It has a pocket for storage of essentials, without blocking access to the chalk.) Just ordered his new alpine pack. I have way too many packs, but could not resist. |

He hooked me up with a made-to-order chalk bag recently. Worth inquiring! |

Hi all, TUFA Climbing Crowdfunder - I just launched a 14-day Crowdfunder to purchase materials and get this project off the ground. I'd be happy to answer any questions people have on either MP thread. My email is josh@tufaclimbing.com if you'd like to email me personally. Much Love, |

steven wang wrote: I've been prototyping some new chalk bag concepts that I'm excited about. Right now they aren't in the calendar. Currently, I'm focusing on relaunching with the Mochilla 33, and ensuring a quick in-house production for the crowdfunder supporters. |

Is 33L the fully expanded volume? |
|
A K wrote: 33 liters is the max closed volume. With the roll top open, it's a little over 37 liters capacity. The method I use for measuring pack volume is lining the Mochilla with a plastic bag and pouring 1 liter nalgenes into the bag. This method is effective with the tubular shape of the bag and static, no-stretch fabric. The pack climbs well through it's entire volume range. |

The new Mochilla 33 climbs very similarly to the OG Mochilla 21, which is out of production. The first photo shows the Mochilla 33 packed to about 28 liters. The second photo shows the Mochilla 33 fully open, with the weatherproof extension collar. I'd be glad to answer any questions. Thank you for your support, y'all! |
