I’m thinking of doing some TRS while I’m nearby pilot mt for Christmas. I haven’t been yet so wanted to see if anyone had any insight on how busy it might be this time of year, or some good go to routs to mess around on. I don’t want to feel rushed by a crowd. Also, judging that it’ll probably be cold as hell, what routs usually stay in the sunlight? Thanks in advance!

If you're worried about crowding, go during the week. It can get quite busy on the weekends, especially if it's full sun. As far as it being cold, it can go either way this time of year depending on whether or not the wind is coming out of the South. A 30 to 40° day can be beautiful out there if the wind isn't a problem, and it rarely is since it generally comes out of the North or West. Most of the walls either face East for warmer morning climbing, while others face South for decent temps until late afternoon. There are plenty of options for setting up an easy top rope solo, I would just check out Mountain project for options in grades you're looking for. Check out routes in the Three Bears Gully, Little Amphitheater and Parking Lot areas for good TRS options.

Thanks bud! Some good information. Being you’re right around Asheboro where I’m going, other than the bouldering there, got any other suggestions for a good half day trip?

This time of year rocky face or Stone Mountain would be options. Probably 2 hours or so from asheboro

The Asheboro area is mostly about bouldering. The Asheboro Boulders (Ridges Mountain), Stony Mountain Vineyard and some lesser visited areas in the Uwharrie Mountains. Asheboro Boulders has some taller boulders  you could likely set up on.

Here's a second vote for Rocky Face for easy TRS set up.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
