Hello all,

I’m going to be traveling solo around Horse Pens 40 from Dec. 2-5, and I have some General questions:

1. Any other fun bouldering areas around? I can drive wherever.
2. Does anyone need a lead partner for outside in that time period? Happy to meet up wherever.

Levels: V4/V5 indoor, 5.11 indoor. I have a good amount of experience doing outdoor lead, but I have been spoiled by Mussy hooks.

cheers,

Derek

Horse pens has plenty to keep you busy for that time. Stone Ft, Rock Town, and my favorite boulder field Zahnd are within an hour or two. But if you only have 3 days id just stay in horse pens. Sandrock also has a lot of bouldering and moderates.

You can easily spend 4 days at Horse Pens, but if you want a change of scenery, Hospital Boulders is worth a visit. It's 30 minutes away from Horse Pens and has lots of classics in the V4/5 range (as does Horse Pens).

I second Andrew's recommendation of Hospital Boulders in Gadsden.  It's a fun place.  There's also been a lot of boulder development happening at Noccalula Falls, also in Gadsden.  There are a couple dozen lead routes there as well - some sport, some trad.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
