I climb tree for work. It involves a rope man on the ground rigging all day long. When it’s cold and wet what do y’all use while operating ropes? Would love input from ice climbers and such about what gives good dexterity while also providing comfort from the elements
As a former ground guy, I usually just had 4 or 5 pairs of the standard knit work gloves with rubber palms that you're probably already using and would just cycle through them throughout the day. You can also get away with thicker, waterproof leather gloves in some situations. At the rate I burned through the rubber coating on work gloves as the rope ran through them, I'd be hesitant to shell out for something more expensive.
The showas are prevalent in ice climbing, but they're not durable if you're running rope through them constantly. The showas\rubber are best for holding on to things (tools, etc). I switch out to leather palm belay gloves for extensive rope work. I would probably just get a bunch of cheap insulated kincos, water seal them, and switch them out throughout the day as they get wet. High end alpine gloves might be technically waterproof, but a fresh dry pair of anything is always going to be better. Plus you don't have to drop a pretty penny for something you're gonna beat up anyway.
