Best Gloves for Mixed Climbing
|
Hi, Folks! I'm looking for good mixed climbing gloves. I intend to use these gloves in the gym with some gym-safe dry picks on my nomics. I normally use Petzl's Cordex gloves, but they are falling apart and I can't replace them due to supply chain issues at Petzl. I do see that other companies like BD and OR have similar gloves to the Cordex (like the OR Direct Route II). But I wanted to see if anyone has knowledge of gloves that are specifically designed for mixed climbing? Does anyone have any suggestions? I do also already know that a lot of people buy golf gloves for this, and I am certainly open to that. Notedly, some of my friends have some bomb ass OR gloves that don't seem to be on the market anymore - called like the "OR M/X gloves" or something like that. They don't seem to be available anymore, but they seemed specially designed for mixed climbing and were great. I wonder if anyone knows about similar gloves? |

If you're just looking for something to wear while climbing in the gym then go with golf gloves. I went to my local sporting goods store, bought the cheapest gloves there and they have been serving me well for almost two years now. |

BD has a new glove this year for mixed/drytooling called the Ice Joy. It's intended to be a durable glove that has the feel of a golf glove. I've been using them for a couple months and have been really happy. They are definitely more durable than a golf glove and the sensitivity seems about the same to my hands. My go to glove for outdoor mixed and dry is the newest iteration of the BD Torque that came out this fall. They have a new palm material that is much more sensitive and flexible than the old version. I believe it's got better grip as well. |

for the gym I'd go with golf glove (as already suggested) or even baseball batting gloves |

Ive used the deadbird Alpha SL gloves for the past 5 years or so for almost all my backcountry and resort skiing days, and they finally started to rip open at the tips. My fingers seldom get cold so I like the golf glove thin feel they had. The ice joys look like a comparable glove for half the price too! And they look like they will not dye your hands black for the first 100 days of use either! |

NateC wrote: I guess I never actually wear gloves while going uphill because I run so hot. I just know the alpha sl gloves tend to let moisture pass through them pretty well after putting hot sweaty wet hands in over and over after transitions and what not. They get cold and hard but never really get cold and sloppy like all the other insulated gloves I've tried. I love the alpha sl, but $100 for another pair of golf gloves, eh. Ive been tig welding for too long. Natural leather, thiner the better…. But they never last long. |
