UP Mocc vs UP Duel

Does anyone have any experience with both the UnParallel Mocc and Duel? I’d like to know how they compare in stiffness, fit and what the break in is like (Moccs being leather and Duels synthetic). There’s a gym near me that sells the Moccs so I can at least try those on. Thanks!

I can answer this one!

They are generally very similar! I think they are about the same when it comes to stiffness. Despite the fact that the UpMoccs are listed as “stiff” they are not stiff at all. Both will get nice and floppy very quickly.

The fit is just about the same, they are built on the same last. The Mocc has a real tenancy to stretch bag out over a long time because they are unlined leather, the Dual won’t do that as badly.

Overall, I think the Dual is the most similar shoe to the OG Moccasym, much more similar in feel than the Mocc. Not having the toe patch makes the shoe feel “softer” because when you lift your toes there is nothing in the way just like the moccasym.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have only used the UpMoccs, but I can also attest to the fact that they are soft shoes. I love them for friction slab climbing.

Has anyone had a stiffening plate added to them during a resole? I have been considering it, but do not want to ruin a pair if it doesn't make sense to do.

That was great and answered all my questions! Thanks.

I always see people talking about how the Mocc is the replacement for the Moccasym but I thought the Duel looked more similar. Thanks for that comparison.

I’m not sure if I really need the toe patch for jamming (and I like the color blue) so I think I’ll get the Duel.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
