Has anyone thrown their back out aiding too much?

So you may have seen in another thread where I've been practicing hauling, aiding, jugging, etc etc... and I've been spending sometimes 4 hours in my harness at the gym just trying to get my systems dialed. I've done 3 days a week now for the past almost two months and my lower back has been killing me more and more.  This past Monday I think maybe the final straw landed on the camels back because now I can hardly move. :(

I've got a Metolius Waldo harness but yeah I don't think it offers enough protection.  I had an old yates big wall harness back in the day and you could hang in that forever.  I've recently ordered a  Misty Mountain Cadillac and have high hopes for it.

Have any of you guys over done it while trying to train for big walls?  Any tips?

No, but I’ve almost thrown out my aid stuff for backing down too much….

My Yates Big Wall Harness has a HUGE wide pad around my lower back, and I've never had any problems hauling my enormous Junk Show.  If my lower back gets sore, it's nothing a methocarbamol muscle relaxant pill can't fix usually, along with a couple ibuprofen.

I have to be a lot more careful when I am bending over sorting gear than when I am climbing, cleaning, jugging or hauling!

Great point. But yeah I kinda feel you do?  That's why I setup 2 pitches in 40'.  The "Climbing" (bolt to bolt), and jugging takes me about 20mins total for jugging and climbing the 40'  But the other hour is just dealing with rope etc.  (30mins a pitch)  Just feels like way too much time. :( Of course, this was all solo myself but I was actually faster than with my partner)  He's 68 and I'm 56.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
