AAC Cancels All Craggin Classic Events
|
https://americanalpineclub.org/craggin-classics Not sure why. For those unaware, the American Alpine Club recently sold their headquarters building in downtown Golden, and has closed the AAC library for walk-ins (although you can still order books via mail). |

Probably because the AAC is broke, or something like that. I really don’t know tho, pure speculation. |

The Strategic Plan is neither.

Cron wrote: Agree. Reads like corporate word salad. Disappointing that these events are being cancelled. Really enjoyed the Bishop event over the years and the clinics offered. One of the best outings ever was Smokes Rock course (1 & 2) in Buttermilks with Doug Robinson. Both really fun days. |

The 2023 financials say that expenses were around 200k greater than revenue, which isn’t awesome, but is probably manageable in a year that was all around tough on non-profits. In light of the events cancellation, it stands out that events generated 700k ish of revenue and 3.39MM of expenses. The “impact” report is light on details of the health of the endowment, but in 22-23 that probably also took a hit. In the absence of anyone who knows what’s going on talking, it sounds like there’s worry about ongoing structural deficits which are death for non profits. However the org is not in imminent danger. The long term worry is the largest revenue source, membership fees, drying up as services/benefits are cut. That can create a death spiral. I sure wish they’d talk to us directly about what’s happening. |
