I did a search and only found one thread with a mention, back in 2017. I admit I didn't look any longer, so if I missed it, apologies.

Any you blokes, blokettes and blokethems used this? If so, what was / is your experience with it? I just became aware it even existed. Specs say its for semi-static ropes. I'm just curious. I have a good setup for my use cases but I am interested in hearing some real world about this device.

What say you?

If you already own one, why not?  I certainly wouldn't buy one just for TRS when a MT & Lift or 2x MT works so perfectly for up-only TRS.  If you want to be able to work sections or rap at any point on the pitch, the Taz LOV is spectacular.

I've used a friend's and it works well. The top clip hole is nice and less faff than other setups. The rollers are slightly more draggy when you're off the plumb line compared to a microtraxion.

Similar to the new Petzl Basic (and notably different from the old Basic and new/old Petzl hand ascenders) the clip in hole does not make the rope captive. In a head down fall the rope could completely remove itself from the device. I would never use a device that doesn't have the rope 100% captive for either a primary or secondary device in TRS.

  • A guide once recommended that device. Also said it doesn't have teeth if I remember right? I tried looking and no luck, they had teeth. Unless ppl just sand them down.

I have twice seen people accidently free soloing on relatively short traverses when the side pull popped the rope out of the ascender.

People sanding the teeth = ignorant of the reality (that the teeth don't damage the rope. At all.)

+1 for this.

There are clones of the original Petzl Basic:
