Dude says “Nomic” maybe 5 times more than he says the name of this tool. If something is “just like the Nomic” and “swings similar to the Nomic” to market a new tool, why wouldn’t I just stick to my Nomics?

These are like 1/3 the price

Did you double check your math?

Seems like they are trying to create something of a quiver killer. Interesting comparing it to something of an exact opposite of that.

They say this axe is made for the people who climb ice crags with their loved nomics and want the same feel for the alpine. So basically its an alpine alpine focused axe, like the petzl quarks! that swings like a nomic, and such its not a replacement for nomics.

And with that objective in the mind, i think they have succeeded based on their marketing content. Its always hard to choose between a quark and a nomic for a longer run in the alps, but having a styx it would be 100% the choice (if they are as good as it seems from this single video).

im very interested. looks great for cruising up steep snow with some bulges and rock and technical spots where you want to be able to hang on a real pommel. the north machine picks are probably better and the carbon would feel better but the ability to comfortably hang off the tool in two positions is more valuable i think.  the one piece handle is definitely a good thing.  and black diamond pointed out from developing the hydra that carbon tools might not be suitable for bashing and wedging in between rocks.

now i want to see tools with that allow you to change pick angle, maybe on the fly without worrying about dropping a bolt

email response from today. "sadly" lol.

Nomics = $710 a pair w/ Pick weights.

Styx = $580 a pair w/ Pick weights.

Nomics are $309 or $620 a pair.  That’s  a $40 difference

Okay so aside from all those difficult maths…

I’d also be willing to bet that there’s no one on MP who has paid full retail for a pair of Nomics.

I guess my point was that if you use pick-weights the cost difference is noticeable, if not it’s not as significant.

I was surprised to see what head weights cost.

Petzl ($90)

Xdreams ($110)

Nomics come with pick weights. Why would you factor in a second set of pick weights into the cost?

A quick search shows Nomics currently retailing for 20% off as is the norm, not to mention second hand sales on the forums on the regular.

I think we can end the discussion about the cost of Styx being noteworthy. They are priced on par with market price but suffer from a lack of availability and a stupid name.

Maybe they are stronger than Nomics, but usually people try to argue with the facts when I make those statements…

Ah, my mistake! I didn’t realize that. I’ve been an X-dreamer for a while, and they aren’t, so I made the assumption. Thanks for clarifying!

What, you don't like a particular river located in Hades? I think Somerset and Mills reading his copy of cliff notes would disagree, they have a fond place for it once John Doe set them on their path.  I digress, Hades is Greek, Dante is Italian....now i need to read more cliffnotes.

Styx was one of the greatest American rock bands and they only caught a bad rap because most critics are cynical assholes.

This might be the greatest response in the history of the Ice Climbing forum.
