Do you have a preference for yates or skots when it comes to adjustable daisies that are releaseable under pressure?

Thanks

I would post this in the big wall forums.

I haven't tried Skot's but I love my yates. And Skot's may address the biggest issue with the Yates, the relatively bulky, heavy buckle.

I have Skot's and like them. I also really like the Metolius Easy Daisies, and prefer them to Skot's for general function...but hate that they aren't rated. I'd recommend going with Skot's.

Is the bulky and heavy buckle a real issue?

Not an issue, but perhaps an opportunity to improve. Like most climbing gear it's nice to be lighter. I'd still prefer a heavy, bigger buckle if it functions better.

Skot's daisies are rated to what? can't find it on the website.

I've got Skot's and I've used Yates. Bottom line, I think they're essentially identical in use on the wall. One would be equally fine with either one, IMO.

If I were to go looking for minor differences to quibble about:

::: The Yates has a rap ring at the pull end of the daisy—this can whip around and hit things or people. This is an on the ground problem, not a wall problem. It's a minor annoyance when you're sorting gear/racking up.

::: Skot's has no ring, so the two ends look pretty identical at a quick glance; if you're not paying attention, it's pretty easy to girth hitch the wrong end to your harness, and then the pull doesn't work. I've done this twice, and both times caught the error before leaving the ground. Would be a bummer to discover when you've already started ascending.

::: The carabiner eye on the Yates is contoured to better fit the curve of a carabiner, but Skot's is not. With a smaller carabiner, the Yates daisy may interface better with the biner (think like a DMM oval or a Petzl spirit) than the Skot's daisy where the webbing will kind of get bunchy. Use a larger biner like a BD oval or Petzl OK, and it's a total non-issue.

::: The buckles seem the same to me between the two? I haven't held them side by side to compare, but just in thinking about my use of the two, I couldn't tell you whether one is bulkier than the other. The functionality is certainly identical.

I prefer the ergonomics of pulling on the webbing loop to tighten the daisy over pulling on the aluminum ring, plus the Skot's daisies are marginally cheaper, so it's Skot's for me. But really, they're so close to the same that you could decide with a coin toss and be equally happy with either result.
