Sportiva Katana Velcro (modern)
|
Anyone have experience with the modern version of the Katana Velcro? Seems they're pretty tough to find in the states but they're available to ship in North America off the sportiva website. Mostly interested in them as a comfy but still decent performing multi-pitch shoe that's easy to pop off at belays. Seems like a challenging category to find a shoe in anymore. Would take other suggestions too. |

They’re pretty much the same/very similar as the original katanas. I’ve had a pair for a few years - ordered them from Europe. I usually wear a 41.5 for a tighter/performance fit but I would go down a bit if I were to order another pair. |

They are better than the old one (2010-2015ish blue/teal or yellow), better heel and keeps flat better than the old one without the P3 rand system. The p3 newest one has only been out for about a yr. https://www.oliunid.com/la-sportiva-katana-yellow-black-climbing-shoes-3.html Get em from italy (and most other gear), cheaper. Compared to old katana velcro you size down around full euro size for about same fit. My old 42 is slightly tighter than P3 new 41.5. Its a perfect trad/multi fit tho with performance without killing you. My street size is about 44-44.5 The sizing is pretty much identical to the current katana lace too if you used those |

Just some FYI for anyone considering these. I just went to the La Sportiva store to try these on. As a reference I have the Katana laces 2022 version, so the newer version of the laces. The sales person warned me these are almost a completely different shoe. First, I needed to downsize almost 2 sizes (granted my laces could have gone down a size) and they are softer, exactly as he said they were and they are not as pointed as the laces version. I immediately opted out as they felt more like the Tarantulas to be honest. So word of warning to those thinking its the same shoe as the laces......have no idea why LS does this! |
