Ski Mountaineering in Patagonia in October

I'm planning on going to El Chalten at the start of October. I'm planning on doing some of the traverses around the Southern Patagonia Icefield like the Hielo. I know it's been an above average winter so I was wondering if it was worth bringing wider skis or even a splitboard. Also would it still be possible to get some touring in around Fitzroy still? I'm just trying to decide if its worth going a few weeks earlier to get better touring conditions.

I live in the PNW and have extensive ski mountaineering experience in the Cascades and in the Alps. If anyone is also going to be down in El Chalten, hit me up!

Hey Zuhair, I was potentially dreaming up the same trip. Had a climbing trip get cancelled and now considering a trip to SA with the skis. Been to Peru/Ecuador, solid ski touring/mountaineering experience, previously Tahoe based. I was looking into Frey as well. Did you end up going early? would be curious to get in touch about your plans.

Cheers,
Ari

Im booked down there for a short window, Nov 15-20, Id be interested in a touring day if I can't get on a rock route (was looking at tagging an easy 5.8 by fitz roy area) weather pending, obviously. Splitboarder not as inclined for traverses. (Paso Marconi looked good for touring or maybe some laps in there from online descriptions)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
