Best way to sell gear in Co?
|
This is not a “for sale” post—just a question about selling gear here and otherwise. Due to health reasons, I need to sell my trad rack and pack, sport rack, and probably my ice rack, pack, tools, boots and crampons. Some of this stuff is relatively new (2-3 years) and some of the hard goods (cams, carabiners, screws) are on the older side (10-15 yrs). It’s all seen light use and is in great shape. I’d love to hear from experienced sellers—is this forum the best place to do that? What about Facebook Marketplace? eBay? There’s also a good gear consignment store available. I’m just seeking a fair price, minimum hassle and no fraudsters, and to get it done while I still can, to save my family the trouble of dealing with this later. Advice? Thanks! Dara |

Dara, As a general statement you will get more money for your gear by selling it here on MP but it takes more legwork with photos and descriptions of the gear’s condition coupled with communicating with folks and verifying they are real. Normally it’s as easy as looking at their profile and seeing if they have made successful transactions in the past. In terms of convenience, bringing the gear to an outdoor consignment store is the more pain free option but you might not always be able to sell every single article within the limited market of your local gear store and you will get less money from it.

I have had much better luck with selling stuff on Facebook marketplace. The MP gear forum is flooded with so many posts that your posting will quickly fall off the front page, and there isn't a great way for people to search for what they want locally. I usually post stuff both on MP and FB Marketplace, and I always get more interested buyers coming from Marketplace. As an example I posted an ad for a crash pad on both sites a few days ago. I have had 6 interested buyers on FB Marketplace and only 1 from MP. Same thing happened when I was selling my home wall a few months ago, best offer and sale came from Marketplace. |

1) Mountain Project forum 2) Facebook Marketplace 3) Boulder Sports Recycler I find MP can usually get you the highest price but you’ll have to ship most items. Factor this into your pricing. Marketplace works ok and is local, but you have to deal with some flakiness. BSR will move your stuff but you’ll get way less money than you would elsewhere since they take a 50% cut. |

take it all to boulder sports recycler and leave it all in one trip be done they have a free box if they wont accept it for sale set it up for trade and let your relatives use the store credit and may your transition from alive to dead be peaceful there are resources like free death and dying groups science of the mind mile hi church grief and loss counseling and for in home care dignity care is the only locally owned outfit to not make ur family have to take care of u and if u dont wanna wait to die fly to switzerland as it now has a suicide chamber anyone can crawl into for only $20 euro or go to oregon for medical assisted death too |

The Butt-Shot Whisperer wrote: If you have the “right” disease and less than 6 months, and you can jump thru the hoops, Colorado passed the Medical Aid in Dying (“MAID”) Act some years ago. Something like 11 states and DC allow “death with dignity” but the law is very, very narrow. |
