truck camping near the Red
|
Hi guys, I'm going to be spending several 3-4 night weekends in the second half of this year at the Red. I sleep in the bed of my truck. I'm looking for recommendations for camping locations. The RRG MP site lists Miguels, and Lago Linda's. Those sound great, but I'd like to get other recommendations also. I don't need electricity, but water/bathroom/shower facilities would be a major plus. I googled and saw a couple of places, but recommendations from climbers carry a lot more weight in my book that google or a website. Thanks in advance for any advice! |

Miguels is the place to be IMO. Ive spent a combined total of close to a month there, both in my car and in a tent. I believe its only like $3-$5 a night, and the only people there (for the most part) are other climbers. Very easy to find belay partners or share beta/stoke. They also have water/bathrooms. There is showers and laundry machines, however one or both of these have been broken about 50% of the time ive been there. This may be biased though because i've never stayed anywhere else because i enjoy miguels a lot haha. |

There may be other options, but Miguel's is kinda the place, central, cheap, part of the RRG experience. Can be a little dirty/crowded/loud/rowdy, especially weekends, which is also kinda part of the draw. Land of the Arches is another one, tis fine too I guess. |

I wrote the accommodations section on the RRG page, Miguel's or Lago's are where it's at! LOTA is centrally located as well, I took it off the page because they temporarily shut down and it was unclear whether it would open back up as a campground, they're back open now though atleast for now. |

Can folks leave tents set up at Miguel’s during the day, while climbing or do they have tear down camp every morning? |

TThurman wrote: You certainly can leave the tents up for the duration of your stay at all the campgrounds. But I wouldn’t leave valuables inside. Miguel’s’s, Lago Linda, and Land of the Arches are the three main climber campgrounds that don’t require advanced reservations, people just show up and set up on the empty spot in the field. Make sure you pay the night you show up, and not the next morning. LL and LOTA are more extensive, but have slightly nicer bathroom facilities, and limited electricity plug-in options in their shelters. If you want to have your own campsite, that option is available at Lago Linda, Re-lode, Whittleton, etc. but you do need to reserve well in advance, especially for LL and Whittleton. |

Thank you All, I appreciate the info. |

I always preferred camping behind the daniel boone coffee shop. It’s significantly quieter than miguel’s at the same price, while keeping the central location for north/south access. You lose out on shower access and after hours bathroom access is a porta-potty though |
