House for sale - Lover's Leap

Hello Climbers,

I am selling my house in Strawberry CA, on Highway 50.  This house is the closest one to Lover's Leap, less than five minutes from the boulders and less than 10 from Lower Buttress and the Hogwild.  It also has super easy access to hiking and biking trails, the American river, and backcountry skiing. You can ski right out of the house. It's also 15 minutes from Sierra at Tahoe. This place is a climber's or mountain lover's dream!

The house is a 1/1 with an open sleeping loft that we used as a primary, and it sits on a lot that is just under half an acre. Bordered on two sides by national forest.

We've made many improvements to the place over the last few years and lived in it full time for about 2.5 years, it is comfortable and ready to go, even in record breaking winters like the one two seasons ago. The county plows the road.  I thought I would never sell it, but we needed more space because my wife and I both work from home so we moved into a place nearby.  Come be my neighbor and live in an incredible place!

Thanks Mike! It is a sweet spot for sure.

Ben, sounds like a great deal for the right person in a beautiful part of the state.  "delightfully backwards" has to be one of the better euphemisms I've come across, well done!

Tantalizing, sure, but for half that price I'll put somebody on over 50 secluded acres with a rustic 10 bed (in tents) setup reasonably close to the *other* Lover's Leap in delightfully backwards yet perennially resilient Upstate Cal!

I wonder why you can get 50 acres so cheaply...

Oh, maybe today's forecast "Sunny and hot, with a high near 98."

Real Estate prices are generally set where they are for valid reasons.

Ah, Kevin, you aren't enamored of that to-be third world country called the "State of Jefferson?" Clueless and trained to be scared by Faux News; yeah, that's a recipe for great civic leaders.

OP, feel free to regulate on scandalous diversions here, but this could be a solid marketing angle to unpack further re: local community attitudes and efforts with respect to somewhat um, combustible future scenarios? I am definitely into helping people evaluate and engage with proactive 'resilience' and community/enviro integrity measures, and not in a one solution rules way at all. I wish more real estate searches/transactions actively factored that in by now. Sometimes it is two steps back and one forward (or sideways) for the eventual win I think Kevin, a deep reset without fixating on old forms. Worth exploring at least, and I'm trying to make space for it near and far! May we all get (back) home, in full service :)

Can the buyer get homeowner's insurance  or only California Fair Plan ?

Dave Stallard · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Jul 2024 · Points: 0

Hi Gerald, that is a good question. I expect that the Fair Plan might be the only option.  We were able to get traditional homeowners insurance when we bought it, but things have changed over the last few years.

Wow, less $ than I expected. What an amazing location. Have you done the math and looked at permits to see if you can AirBNB it and keep it as an investment?

Dave Stallard · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Jul 2024 · Points: 0

I have considered keeping it, but I'm not interested in doing the short term rental thing.  I am still considering a long term rental.  The short term rental permit issue is tricky with the new County rules, it might be possible to use it as a short term rental but I haven't looked at it closely and don't know if it's eligible.
