Gear for Winter Mountaineering: What Are Your Must-Haves?
|
Hi everyone, I'm planning a winter mountaineering trip and would love some advice on essential gear. I was planning to go on a winter expedition, and I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need. What are your must-have items for staying safe and comfortable in cold conditions? Any recommendations for lightweight and durable gear would be appreciated! |

This has been a game changer for me. |

Smart wool extra thick hunter socks, macadamia nuts for long lasting energy and quick calories on the move, and good liner gloves. If this guy is a bot I’ll eat a piton. |

My checklist for winter mountaineering: - one forty-five caliber automatic - two boxes of ammunition - four days' concentrated emergency rations - one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills - one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible - one hundred dollars in rubles - one hundred dollars in gold - nine packs of chewing gum - one issue of prophylactics - three lipsticks - three pair of nylon stockings. |

It really depends on where you are going, how you are getting there, and how long you were be there. Dropped off by a plane in Alaska and pulling a sled through Patagonia are two different propositions. |

If I were to pick the essential gears for winter mountaineering, it would be the stove and the headlamp. |

Extra food, lithium battery, extra batteries for my head lamp, belaying jacket 900 down, pants outer shell & what saves me every winter...1 liter primus termos with hot cocoa. Game changer adding that extra litter to the usual liquids i carry. Climbing or glacier travel |
