5.Easy Recommendations + Fly Fishing + Backpacking
|
Hello, I previously backpacked in to Upper Boy Scout and spent a few nights there, fly fishing (tons of rainbows) and climbing whitney. I am looking for recommendations for similar destinations in the Sierra. Drivable from Vegas in under 6hrs, ~5mi backpack in, camping near an alpine lake with decent trout fishing and 3rd class - easy 5th classic multipitch nearby. I want to bring my girlfriend out for such a trip to a place neither of us have been. Thanks! |

Id use mp's route finder...just set the parameters you want, like 4th class to say 5.4, and then start going through the climbs that populate, and see if they fit your agenda... |

Sounds like Treasure Lakes outta South Lake would fit your need. Although, it's only a 3 mile hike, and you wanted 5! The fishing is good, and a ton of easy scrambling all around. |
|
North or South Fork of Big Pine Creek has a lifetime of what you are looking for. |
|
Go climb the Northeast Arete of Bear Creek Spire and you can camp at the Treasure Lakes of Rock Creek and catch the elusive golden trout! Another good one is climb the North Ridge of North Peak or Conness and fish 20 Lakes Basin. Yay for summer! |

Thanks everyone. Going to start looking into these! |

Hiking from North Lake outside of Bishop and doing SE face of Mt. Emerson with fishing in Loch Leven and the surrounding lakes is a great time. |

All good recs (though I don’t fish). Also check out Kearsarge Lakes. Beautiful setting with lots of scrambling soloing on nearby Kearsarge Pinnacles. |

This fits the bill. Real Golden Trout creek… I’ve heard about 500-700 foot tall alpine wall behind Lake #3-4…. The Golden season starts July 1 I believe. Good creek below this formation. https://www.mountainproject.com/photo/113349004/fish-stick-buttress-iii-58r |

This thread is getting me super psyched that there are other people into the granite/rippin' lips combo. Such awesome complementary pursuits and so satisfying. Woot! |
|
Pine Creek Pass drainage is not to be missed. Both sides. All the lakes in the Moon Lakes vicinity, plus Royce lakes. Tons of technical and non technical climbing in a spectacular setting. And if you can pack.your float tube to Royce Lakes... Oh Yeah!!! A quick short cut from Honeymoon lake provides quick access to Royce Lakes without having to go over Pine Creek Pass. |

Sky Blue Lake, Miter Basin. Good fishing, endless scrambles, traverses, and some easier 5th-class climbing. Lots of little lakes to explore throughout the basin and you can easily crossover to Crabtree Lakes to fish and eye some difficult lines. |
